Here’s to a new school year and welcome to Long Island City High School, your child’s home away from home for the next four years. My name is Awatef Ibrahim, your Parent Coordinator. I am here to provide parents’ access to the community within the school. Long Island City High School is an excellent school environment for your children, as the staff is very dedicated and committed in helping students grow to achieve their full academic potential.

As a Parent Coordinator, my main objective is to encourage parent involvement in the education system. You, as a parent or guardian, have the right to voice concerns, needs and ideas pertaining to your child’s education and well-being while in school. We welcome all of your suggestions and points of view so that together we can help our children thrive. Your involvement in your child’s education and support are essential to the success that lies ahead.

Parents and guardians are kept informed of events and activities by methods such as, monthly Parent Association meetings, workshops, emails, phone messenger calls, our school website at longislandcityhs.schoolwires.net, and our parent newsletter, which is mailed out every other month. Another one of our highly effective communication systems is Jupiter Ed. Jupiter Ed is a website that Long Island City High School uses to help keep you informed of your child’s progress. You can log in anytime to check your child’s grades, attendance, missing work, test scores, and also communicate with teachers. In order to receive your username and password, please contact us.

I am located in room 185, Monday to Friday, from 7:30AM to 4:00PM. I can be reached at 718-545-7095, EXT: 1854 and by email at aibrahim3@schools.nyc.gov. Our door is always open, and no appointment is necessary. I am glad to help you with any questions, concerns or issues that you may have. I look forward to meeting you and working together to make the upcoming school years successful for all!
